Description
Margrain Vineyard’s 2019 Reserve Pinot Noir is a distinguished expression of Martinborough’s cool-climate terroir. Established in 1992, Margrain is a second-generation, family-owned winery dedicated to producing wines that authentically reflect the unique characteristics of the region. The Reserve label represents their commitment to excellence, crafted only in exceptional vintages.
The 2019 Reserve Pinot Noir is a blend of 47% Dijon 115, 37% Dijon 114, and a dash of the renowned Abel clone, sourced from three adjacent blocks near the winery. This careful selection ensures a wine that is both complex and expressive. The winemaking process involves hand-picking the fruit, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the wine's fresh and vibrant character. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels to enhance its depth and structure.
In the glass, the 2019 Reserve Pinot Noir presents a deep garnet colour. The nose is aromatic, offering notes of blackcurrant, vanilla, cedar, and anise/spice. On the palate, the wine is concentrated and high-energy, with flavours that are bright and fresh. The tannins are firm yet refined, and the acidity is well-integrated, providing a long and harmonious finish.
This Pinot Noir pairs well with a variety of dishes, including duck breast, venison, and cured meats. Its balance of fruit, acidity, and tannin structure suggests it will continue to evolve and develop complexity over the next several years. The 2019 vintage is available for purchase through Margrain Vineyard's online store and select retailers.
