Description
Nanny Goat Vineyard, established in 1998 in Central Otago’s Queensberry sub-region, is recognized for its pioneering role in organic and biodynamic viticulture in the region. Founded by Scott and Sue Triggs, the winery emphasizes low-intervention winemaking to express the unique terroir of their rugged, high-altitude site. Nanny Goat has been at the forefront of sustainable practices, cultivating ancient schist soils and cool climate conditions to produce wines with distinct mineral intensity and elegance.
The 2022 Queensberry Pinot Noir comes from carefully tended blocks within the estate, combining clones 113, 777, and Abel. The grapes are hand-harvested, partially whole-bunch fermented, and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques, about 29% new. This approach balances fruit purity with structural complexity.
In the glass, it shows deep garnet hues with aromas of black plum, wild berries, and floral notes accented by subtle spice. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and bright acidity, delivering a structured yet refined finish.
This Pinot Noir pairs well with roasted meats and mushroom dishes, benefiting from several years of bottle age to develop further complexity.
