Description
Founded in 1829 and still family owned, Champagne Bollinger is based in Ay in the Montagne de Reims and is recognised for a Pinot Noir led style built on oak barrel fermentation, long lees ageing and precision blending from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards. The Bollinger La Grande Annee Rose 2015 (Gift Box) is a vintage rose Champagne made from 62 percent Pinot Noir and 38 percent Chardonnay, including about 5 percent of still red wine from the Cote aux Enfants Grand Cru vineyard in Ay. All base wines are fermented in seasoned oak barrels, and the cuvee was aged on lees for seven years before disgorgement in May 2023 with a dosage of 7 grams per litre. It contains 12 percent alcohol. In appearance it shows a delicate copper pink hue with a fine and persistent bead. The aroma is complex and layered, revealing notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, blood orange, candied citrus, peach, brioche, toasted almond and spice. The palate is dry, full bodied and structured, with red fruit purity supported by fresh acidity, subtle oak texture and chalky mineral length. The finish is long, savoury and finely detailed. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees Celsius; pairs beautifully with lobster, duck breast, venison or berry based dishes, and will cellar gracefully for 10 to 20 years.
