Description
Founded in 2002 by Ernesto Catena, a proponent of natural farming and creative blending, Ernesto Catena Vineyards expresses Mendoza's high-altitude terroir through biodynamic principles and low-intervention winemaking. The 2022 Mara di Uco Petit Verdot is drawn from estate vineyards in the Uco Valley, selected for their combination of altitude, rocky soils, and diurnal temperature shifts. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently sorted, and fermented in small stainless steel tanks with extended maceration to build depth and extract fine tannins. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels, mainly used, to allow varietal intensity and structure to shine. The resulting wine shows aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and subtle violet, supported by earthy undertones and spice. On the palate, it is concentrated and medium to full-bodied, with bright acidity, robust tannins, and a long, savoury finish, promising versatility at the table and short-term cellaring potential.
