Staff Favourite - Exceptional Value
Founded in 2002 by Ernesto Catena, who champions biodynamic viticulture and expressive blends, Ernesto Catena Vineyards draws on Mendoza's varied microclimates for site-specific wines. The 2022 Mara di Uco Bonarda is sourced from select estate parcels in the Uco Valley, prized for their altitude and well-drained soils. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, then undergo fermentation in small stainless steel tanks with gentle extraction to highlight Bonarda's aromatic and textural potential. The wine is matured in mostly used French oak barrels for several months, adding integration and a touch of spice without masking freshness. In the glass, this Bonarda presents bright notes of red cherry, raspberry, and wild herbs, supported by a subtle earthiness. The palate is medium-bodied and lively, marked by soft tannins and a vibrant, juicy finish, making it well suited for immediate enjoyment or pairing with a range of dishes.
