Description
Founded in 2002 by Ernesto Catena, a leading advocate for biodynamic and natural wine in Argentina, Ernesto Catena Vineyards produces expressive, terroir-driven reds from Mendoza's highest sites. The 2018 Siesta Biodynamic Cabernet Franc is grown in certified biodynamic estate vineyards in the Uco Valley, hand-harvested and selected for phenolic ripeness. Fermentation proceeds spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by gentle pressing and moderate maceration to emphasise varietal clarity and supple structure. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels, mostly used, to add polish and depth without masking the fruit's purity. The resulting wine is perfumed with notes of wild herbs, redcurrant and black cherry, framed by subtle spice and a savoury edge. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and fresh, with fine tannins and a persistent finish, drinking beautifully now but with potential for further development over several years.
