Tasting Notes

Delinquente Wine Co. was established in 2013 in the Riverland by Con-Greg Grigoriou with a focus on minimal-intervention wines from organic southern Italian varieties. Weeping Juan Pet-Nat Rosé 2024 is made from organically grown Nero d'Avola, harvested early for bright acidity and wild-fermented in stainless steel before completing fermentation in bottle. It is left undisgorged, unfiltered, and unfined to retain character and texture. The result is a cloudy, bone-dry pét-nat bursting with sour cherry, blood orange, and a lick of salinity, wrapped in fine, chalky bubbles and finishing with crisp, refreshing cut.

Vineyard Cultivation

Delinquente Wine Co. is a Riverland, South Australia label founded by Con-Greg Grigoriou, focused on southern Italian grape varieties suited to the region's warm continental climate. The Weeping Juan pet-nat rose is built on organically farmed fruit, blending Vermentino with the red variety Nero d'Avola. The Riverland's warm days, cool nights and sandy, free-draining soils along the Murray suit these heat-tolerant Italian varieties, which retain freshness and fine acidity when picked at the right moment. Delinquente works with growers moving to organic viticulture and champions drought-adapted Mediterranean grapes as a better fit for the inland climate than classic French varieties, an approach central to the label's identity.

Vinification

Weeping Juan is made in the ancestral method (petillant naturel), with a single fermentation completed in the bottle rather than a separate secondary fermentation. The Vermentino and Nero d'Avola are picked, the rose blend given brief skin contact for its pale pink colour, and the wine bottled while still fermenting so the trapped carbon dioxide creates a soft, natural sparkle. No dosage is added and the wine is made with minimal intervention, finishing dry at a low alcohol of around 10.5 to 11.5 percent. The result is a fresh, lightly sparkling rose with raspberry, watermelon, lime and a savoury, earthy note from the Nero d'Avola.
