If there was ever a captain who refused to lose hope, it was Eric. At the helm of Château Lafite Rothschild, he braced for what was set to be a testing vintage. Eric and his seasoned Pauillac crew had navigated many challenges before—but never anything quite like this. From April through June, they waged a relentless battle against mildew and harsh weather. There were setbacks, missed opportunities, and constant adjustments—until a turning point arrived on 25th June. Calm, temperate conditions finally prevailed, offering the vines a chance to recover and the team a moment to regroup.

By late August, the vineyard was thriving, with berry tastings from the plateau revealing vibrant, flavour-packed fruit—a reward for enduring the turbulent start to the season. Harvesting began on 23rd September with Merlot from Pointon and Gravette, moving swiftly to dodge incoming rain. The finest Cabernet Sauvignon was picked in early October, with the final grapes brought in by the 7th. With short fermentations, gentle extractions and precise pressings, Olivier’s winemaking team now guides this vintage through the cellar with refined skill and finesse.
