"Their prestige Cab is a gem. From a fabulous vintage, the grapes are crushed and destemmed into a fermenter for a week, with twice daily pumpovers. Then to French oak, 30% new hogsheads, for a period of 12 to 18 months. Bottled under cork. An opaque maroon, this is meaty, fleshy and showing notes of cassis, florals, old cigar tobacco, blackberries and spices. We have power, concentration and length with abundant and slightly firm tannins. This will cellar superbly – enjoy over the next ten to twenty years. A cracking warm climate Cabernet."

But it already shows impressive fruit purity – crystal clear black currant, fruit pastilles and a gentile leafy lift. Mouth-filling luscious levels of flavour follow with layers of firm but fine tannins driving a lengthy finish. This wine has a great compact shape, and all the pieces are held tightly together. Welland, established in 2018, emphasises site-driven, low-intervention winemaking, ensuring that the unique character of old-vine Cabernet is preserved. Bottled at 14.5% abv under screwcap, this release offers both concentration and balance.
