Description
The Greywacke Archive Release Chardonnay 2016 is a mature and intricately layered expression of Marlborough Chardonnay that reveals the rewards of extended bottle age. Crafted from hand-harvested Mendoza and Clone 95 fruit grown in the Brancott Valley, Fairhall and Renwick subregions, the wine was whole-bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques, around 20% new. Full malolactic fermentation and 11 months maturation on lees with periodic stirring built texture, savoury depth and structure. Now released after significant cellaring, it shows a complex bouquet of pink grapefruit, burnt orange, white nectarine and preserved lemon, woven with savoury tones of smoked almond, hazelnut meringue, hay and subtle struck flint. The palate is concentrated and finely textured, combining citrus and stone fruit richness with flinty minerality, roasted nut complexity and a taut acid line that drives through a long, focused finish. Bone-dry and precise yet layered and expressive, this wine demonstrates how Greywacke Chardonnay evolves with time and pairs beautifully with roast poultry, creamy seafood dishes or aged alpine cheeses.
