Description
The Nautilus Chardonnay 2023 is a finely crafted Marlborough white that combines purity of fruit with texture, complexity and precision. Fruit from select vineyard parcels was hand-harvested and gently pressed before fermentation in French oak barriques, a proportion of which were new, with both wild and cultured yeasts used to build depth and nuance. The wine underwent partial malolactic conversion and matured on lees with regular stirring to enhance mouthfeel and integrate flavours. Bottled at 13.0% ABV with 5.6 g/L total acidity, it shows a pale gold hue and an expressive bouquet of ripe white peach, nectarine and citrus blossom, layered with brioche, toasted almond and subtle flinty complexity. The palate is medium-bodied and finely textured, balancing stone fruit richness with refreshing acidity and a precise mineral edge. A creamy mid-palate and gently nutty oak frame lead to a long, focused finish. Stylish and balanced, this Chardonnay is excellent now and will reward careful cellaring for five to seven years.
