Description
The Ata Rangi Celebre Syrah Cabernet Merlot 2022 is a bold, full-bodied red blend from Martinborough that expresses both power and elegance. The composition is 47% Merlot, 37% Syrah, 9% Cabernet Franc and 7% Malbec, with a final alcohol of about 13.4% ABV. The fruit is drawn from mature estate vineyards on free-draining gravel soils, and after fermentation the wine is matured in French oak (roughly 22 months) to round tannins and build structure. In the glass it presents a deep ruby hue. On the nose there is a perfumed bouquet of rose petal, lavender, boysenberry, black cardamom and silky dark plum. The palate is vibrant and supple, carrying flavours of pomegranate, cranberry, black cherry and thyme, underpinned by fine, polished tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long and smooth, with a lingering smoky-herbal note. Though approachable now, this vintage will continue to develop beautifully for at least a decade.
