Description
The Greywacke Pinot Noir 2022 is a finely crafted Marlborough red that balances perfume, depth and structure with site expression. Sourced primarily from the Yarrum Vineyard on the Brancott and Ben Morven ridge, with parcels from Omaka and Brancott, the fruit was hand-picked, destemmed with a portion of whole bunches retained, and fermented in open-top tanks with gentle extraction. The wine matured for 11 months in French oak barriques, around 30% new, before bottling at 13.0% ABV. It opens with aromas of boysenberry, blackberry and dark cherry, supported by rose petal, woodsmoke and spice. The palate is supple and layered, showing black liquorice, plum and allspice wrapped around fine, silky tannins and fresh acidity. A savoury undertone and mineral thread carry through to a persistent finish. This Pinot Noir is expressive on release but will gain further complexity with careful cellaring over the next 8 to 10 years.
