Description
The Nautilus Clay Hills Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020 is a site-focused, deeply structured expression of Marlborough Pinot Noir, capturing the unique character of its clay-rich soils. Sourced from the Clay Hills vineyard in the Southern Valleys, the fruit was hand-harvested at full maturity and fermented in small open-top vessels with around 25% whole bunch inclusion to add aromatic lift and structural complexity. The wine was then matured in French oak barriques, with a moderate proportion of new oak, to build texture and integrate spice. Bottled at 13.0% ABV, it shows a vibrant ruby colour and a complex bouquet of red cherry, pomegranate and wild berry, layered with dried herbs, earth, spice and subtle flint. The palate is concentrated and finely structured, with a core of red fruit supported by savoury and mineral undertones, firm yet refined tannins and a lively acid backbone. A whisper of baking spice and smoky earth lingers through the long, layered finish. Structured and ageworthy, this wine will continue to evolve beautifully from 2025 through to 2033.
