Description
The Tokaj Oremus Late Harvest 2022 is a beautifully balanced sweet wine from Hungary’s historic Tokaj region, produced by Vega Sicilia’s Tokaj estate to showcase the richness and freshness of late-harvest fruit. The blend is based on Furmint, complemented by smaller portions of Harslevelu and Zeta, grape varieties renowned for their aromatic lift and ability to develop noble rot. Grapes are hand-harvested over multiple passes late in the season, with bunches containing at least 50% botrytised berries selected for their concentration and complexity. After a short skin contact period of 4 to 12 hours, the must undergoes a slow fermentation lasting 15 to 25 days in stainless steel to retain varietal purity. The wine is matured for about two months in traditional 220-litre Hungarian oak “Szerednyei” barrels before a further six months in bottle. Bottled at 11% ABV with 113 g/L residual sugar and 6.2 g/L total acidity, it shows enticing aromas of orange blossom, candied citrus peel and acacia honey with delicate herbal notes. The palate is luscious and silky yet finely poised, layering ripe apricot, mandarin and lemon curd with vibrant acidity and a mineral thread that keeps the finish fresh and clean. Harmonious and long, this Tokaji is excellent with foie gras, blue cheeses or fruit desserts and will gain complexity over the next five to seven years.
