Description
Tatty Bogler is Forrest Wines' homage to the late Howard Patterson and the rugged, limestone-studded slopes of the Waitaki Valley in North Otago. Positioned inland from the Pacific coast and shaped by glacial gravels, Waitaki offers one of New Zealand's coolest and most marginal climates for Pinot Noir, yielding naturally low crops with striking acidity and mineral detail. In 2022, fruit was hand-harvested and fermented in small open-top fermenters, followed by gentle pressing and ageing in seasoned French oak barriques. Bottled at approximately 13% ABV, the wine presents a deep plum hue with lifted aromatics of cherry skin, cranberry and fresh raspberry overlaying thyme and wild herb. The palate carries baked rhubarb, damson plum and savoury spice, supported by powdery tannins and linear acidity. With its taut structure and cool-climate precision, this is a cerebral Pinot Noir best served with game birds, charred duck or mushroom ragu.
