Description
The Ata Rangi Kahu Dry Riesling 2024 is the first fully dry expression from the Kahu vineyard in Martinborough, a site previously known for producing late-harvest styles. Named after the native harrier hawk, this vineyard sits on free-draining soils that allow fruit to achieve purity and concentration. The 2024 season brought an extended, dry autumn with cool nights, conditions that encouraged slow, even ripening and preserved vibrant acidity. Fruit was hand-picked and fermented at cool temperatures to capture aromatic precision and linearity. The wine opens with delicate aromas of orange blossom, daphne and nougat, with hints of ripe fig sap and citrus zest. The palate is taut and focused, showing flavours of mandarin, lime and crisp apple, layered with subtle mineral tones and saline energy. Its structure is defined by bright acidity and fine phenolics, leading to a long, precise finish. While expressive now, it will evolve further complexity over the next decade.
