Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Chateau Garage is the small-batch personal label of Ollie Powrie, for many years head viticulturist at Villa Maria and one of New Zealand's most experienced vineyard hands. Based in Hawke's Bay on the North Island, Powrie makes tiny volumes under his own name, applying decades of site knowledge to boutique parcels. The Lulu rosé is conceived as a fresh, pale, dry style, with fruit picked comparatively early to preserve natural acidity and delicacy of colour. The 2025 vintage was singled out as New Zealand Rosé of the Year 2026 by The Real Review. Precise vineyard sources, grape varieties and 2025 growing-season detail are not published and should be confirmed before use.

Vinification

Sold as a Wild Ferment rosé, the wine is fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts rather than inoculated cultures, a choice that adds the nutty complexity and textural interest noted at release. The pale hue and fresh red-fruit character point to gentle whole-bunch pressing or a very short skin maceration, with the juice run off quickly and fermented cool to protect aromatics. Exotic fruit notes and evident balance suggest careful handling and minimal intervention through to bottling. Specific detail on press regime, fermentation vessel, any lees contact or time in oak, and residual sugar is not publicly documented for the 2025 release and should be verified with the producer before publication.
