Tasting Notes

Decibel's Giunta Malbec 2022 is a fresh, early-drinking style sourced from sustainably farmed Hawke's Bay vineyards. Grapes are harvested at peak ripeness, destemmed, and fermented in stainless steel to capture vibrant fruit purity. A short maturation in seasoned French oak imparts a gentle structure without masking the varietal's hallmark juiciness. Bottled under screwcap at 14% ABV, the wine is purple-hued and exuberant, with lively aromas of blackberry, blueberry, dark plum and a hint of violets. The palate is medium-bodied, soft and round, delivering ripe fruit, subtle spice, and velvety tannins. Made to be enjoyed young, this Malbec pairs effortlessly with barbecued meats, grilled vegetables or casual fare, and offers a glimpse of the fruit-forward, approachable side of Hawke's Bay reds.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Decibel Wines was founded by American-born winemaker Daniel Brennan, who settled in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, and built the label around single-vineyard and small-parcel wines. The Giunta Malbec is sourced from warm Hawke's Bay sites, farmed sustainably, that ripen Malbec fully to give fruit purity and gentle spice. Hawke's Bay's warmer inland gravel and alluvial soils suit the variety, and the 2022 is presented as a fresh, early-drinking style built on ripe, exuberant fruit rather than power. Grapes were harvested at peak ripeness to capture the wine's blueberry, plum and violet character.

Vinification

The fruit was destemmed and fermented in stainless steel to preserve varietal purity and vibrant fruit, then given a short maturation in seasoned French oak to add gentle structure without masking the wine's juiciness. The result is a dry, medium-bodied red with soft, round, velvety tannins and lively dark-fruit flavour, made to be enjoyed young. It was bottled under screw cap at around 14% alcohol.
