Critic Scores

Another exemplar from the Neudorf team with a bouquet of spiced white flowers, fine lees complexity, ripe white fleshed fruits with a citrus overlay. Excellent day 1, even better day 2, a wine that will reward if cellared. On the palate, delicious, textured, fine, complex and dry. Flavours of citrus, apple and quince, lemon and white peach. The lees and mineral qualities shine on day 2. An excellent example with length, texture and finesse. Best from late 2025 through 2030+.

Vineyard Cultivation

Neudorf Vineyards, established in the Upper Moutere hills of Nelson in 1978 by Tim and Judy Finn, farms its estate organically on the region's ancient Moutere clay-gravels. Rosie's Block - named for Rosie Finn - is a parcel of estate Chardonnay whose fruit underpins this amphora-fermented cuvee, a contemporary exploration of the Moutere clays without the influence of oak. The maritime Nelson climate, with warm days and cool nights, gives ripe fruit with retained acidity. Low yields and hand-tending define the block, and the 2023 season delivered the ripe, tightly structured fruit behind this textural wine.

Vinification

The wine was fermented and raised entirely in clay amphora rather than oak, allowing gentle oxygen exchange and skin and lees texture while keeping the focus on fruit and mineral rather than wood. Wild ferment and time on fine lees added breadth and a spiced, floral complexity, with malolactic managed to retain tension. The amphora elevage produced a textural, dry Chardonnay of citrus, apple and quince with a saline, mineral finish. The wine is vegan-friendly and bottled under screwcap.
