Description
Decibel Wines, founded by American-born Daniel Brennan, brings an experimental yet terroir-driven approach to New Zealand's Hawke's Bay. The Malbec Rosé Pet-Nat 2023 is a pure expression of both grape and place, crafted using the ancestral méthode (méthode ancestrale) to create naturally sparkling wine. Hand-harvested Malbec grapes are gently pressed, and fermentation begins in stainless steel with wild yeasts. Before fermentation completes, the wine is bottled under crown seal, where it finishes fermenting and carbonates naturally, with no dosage or filtration. The result is a vibrant, slightly cloudy rosé with lively bubbles and pronounced aromas of wild strawberry, cherry, grapefruit and a touch of brioche from lees contact. The palate is crisp, dry and refreshingly zesty, with red fruit, citrus and mineral notes supported by tangy acidity. Best served chilled and cloudy, this Pet-Nat is a perfect partner for summer picnics, seafood or modern New Zealand cuisine, and exemplifies Decibel's artisanal, low-intervention style.
