Collaboration Wines is a boutique Hawke's Bay label led by winemaker Julianne Brooks, known for producing small-batch, vineyard-driven wines that emphasise elegance and balance. The Impression Red is crafted in a Bordeaux-inspired style, showcasing the character of Hawke's Bay's Gimblett Gravels and Triangle subregions.
The 2023 blend comprises 33% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Cabernet Franc. Hand-picked fruit was destemmed and cold-soaked prior to fermentation to build aromatic and structural complexity. The wine then matured for sixteen months in older French oak barriques, allowing varietal fruit purity to shine with subtle savoury detail.
The finished wine is medium-bodied and expressive, offering raspberry, plum and dark bramble fruit layered with spice and floral nuance. Supple tannins and bright acidity provide harmony, making it approachable now while retaining the structure to pair gracefully with food.
