Description
Founded in 1946 in Tain-l'Hermitage, Ferraton Pere & Fils has long worked the southern Rhone with a focus on clear, site-led styles. Les Murailles Gigondas 2022 blends Grenache with Syrah and Mourvedre drawn from stony, high-sun parcels that give natural ripeness and drive. The fruit is fully destemmed and fermented in tank to keep purity to the fore, then matured partly in large foudres and the balance in tank to round the wine without overlaying oak spice. The intent is to polish structure while preserving a genuine village imprint. In the glass it is dark-fruited and savoury, carrying black cherry and plum with garrigue, licorice and a discreet spice thread over a mineral core. The palate is muscular yet balanced, medium to full in weight with firm, chalky tannins and clean acidity guiding length. The finish is long, dry and mouthwatering rather than sweet. Built for hearty cuisine, it is a characterful Gigondas that reflects careful sourcing and restrained elevage, and it has the balance to improve steadily over several years.
