Description
Established in 1946, Ferraton Pere & Fils produces La Source from steep slopes in Saint-Joseph to capture a precise northern Rhone expression of Syrah. The 2020 fruit was hand harvested, fully destemmed and fermented in tank with attentive cap management to build structure while keeping fruit definition clear. Elevage combined tanks and barrels, with only a minority of new wood, polishing the tannins and adding line rather than overt flavour. In the glass the wine is vivid yet composed, layering black cherry and blueberry with violet lift, cracked black pepper and a granite edged mineral thread. The palate sits at medium to fuller body with firm but ripe tannins and clean acidity guiding length, oak present as quiet support. Texture is assured without heaviness, carrying into a long, savoury, dry finish. Built for the table, it suits roast meats and robust dishes, and it has the balance to age well over the mid term while remaining approachable in youth, reflecting careful site selection and disciplined cellar work.
