Description
Founded in 1992 by Swiss partners Georg Fromm and Hatsch Kalberer, Fromm Winery in Marlborough has built its reputation on organic viticulture and precision winemaking that highlights purity, balance and terroir. The Fromm Syrah 2022 represents the estate’s pursuit of cool climate expression, combining aromatic lift with finely tuned structure. Organically farmed vines on free draining alluvial soils yielded fruit of low yields and deep flavour concentration. The grapes were hand picked, destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts, followed by maturation in French oak barriques, a small portion new, for measured integration of texture and spice. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the wine sits at moderate alcohol with natural balance. In the glass it shows a vivid purple red colour. Aromas evoke raspberry, plum, black cherry and currant laced with floral violet, cracked pepper, graphite and a hint of smoke. The palate is dry and focused, combining supple red and dark fruit with fine tannins, fresh acidity and mineral tension. The finish is long, pure and savoury, confirming both precision and restraint. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius; pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, venison or roasted aubergine, and will age gracefully for more than a decade.
