    • Description

Mahi Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a refined expression of Marlborough's terroir, crafted by Mahi Wines, a boutique winery known for its commitment to showcasing the individuality of various vineyard sites. Founded in 2001 by Brian Bicknell, Mahi emphasizes texture and depth in its wines, moving beyond the primary fruit notes typical of many Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs. The 2024 vintage continues this philosophy, resulting in a wine that is both complex and approachable.

The grapes for this wine were hand-picked from six different vineyards, each contributing unique attributes to the final blend. The fruit was whole-cluster pressed to minimize skin contact, preserving freshness and purity. Approximately 7% of the juice underwent fermentation in seasoned French barriques, adding weight without imparting overt oak flavors. Additionally, 19% of the wine was fermented with native yeasts, introducing subtle complexity and texture. A small addition of Semillon (2.45%) was included to enhance length and structure. The wine was aged on its lees for eight months, further developing its creamy texture and depth. The final blend was made solely from free-run juice, ensuring elegance and subtlety.

In the glass, Mahi Sauvignon Blanc 2024 presents a pale straw color. The nose is complex, offering aromas of lemon peel, grapefruit pith, apple blossoms, and a hint of pastry. The palate is textural and creamy, with a medium-bodied mouthfeel and bright acidity. Flavors of lime leaves, pomelo, and a touch of sea salt linger on the finish, providing a refreshing and balanced experience.

This wine is versatile and pairs well with a variety of dishes, including shellfish, goat's cheese, and vegetarian fare. Its structure and complexity suggest it will evolve gracefully over the next few years, making it suitable for both immediate enjoyment and short-term cellaring.
