Description
The Nautilus Southern Valleys Pinot Noir 2022 is a refined and expressive Marlborough red that captures the depth, structure and complexity of the region's finest subregional sites. Fruit was sourced from select vineyards in the clay-rich Southern Valleys, hand-harvested at full ripeness and fermented in small open-top tanks with gentle hand plunging to extract colour and fine tannins. A portion of whole bunches was included to add aromatic lift and structure, and the wine matured in French oak barriques, a proportion of which were new, to integrate texture and spice. Bottled at 13.5% ABV, it shows a deep garnet colour and an elegant, layered bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry and plum interwoven with dried herbs, forest floor, cedar and subtle spice. The palate is concentrated yet poised, offering supple red and black fruits framed by silky tannins and vibrant acidity. A savoury undertone and fine structure carry through a long, persistent finish. Drinking beautifully now but capable of graceful development over the next 7-10 years.
