The bouquet leaps from the glass, a volley of ginger, cinnamon, lychee and lavender at first, soon opening to reveal more intricate mineral and earthy notes, underlain with a hint of gun smoke.

In the mouth it is rich and multi-layered, augmented by unobtrusive sweetness and a simmering phenolic drive, that flows across the palate, leading to a prolonged and spicy close.

Plenty of lychee nut, honeysuckle and white peach notes.

    • Description

A unique vineyard in the Waipara Valley, Pegasus Bay, is an entirely family-owned and operated enterprise. It’s tucked up under the lee of the Teviotdale Range, meaning it gets maximum protection from the Pacfic’s easterly breezes.

The Donaldson family have taken full advantage of this unique setting. Their aim is to grow grapes of the highest quality, with minimal handling of the fruit, which fully expresses the features of the vineyard. As pioneers of local grape growing and winemaking, the family have been seriously involved with wine since the early 1970’s.

Floral hints, suggestive of rose petals, intertwine with Turkish delight, spices, oriental musk, incense and candle smoke. It is big–boned and mouth–filling with a smooth, unctuous texture, balanced by a long dry finish.
