Description
Crafted by the Gaja family, one of Italy's most iconic wine dynasties, this Brunello reflects a more temperate vintage and careful selection from estate vineyards on Montalcino's prime southwest slopes. The Sangiovese is picked at optimal ripeness, destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with gentle extraction preserving floral aromatics and fine tannins. Ageing is undertaken in large Slavonian oak casks for around 24 months, softening the wine and developing complexity without masking varietal expression. On release, the 2018 is intensely aromatic, with notes of black cherry, violet, earthy spice and balsamic. The palate is structured yet refined, displaying a core of vibrant fruit, taut acidity, polished tannins and a mineral finish. Bottled under cork, this Brunello offers both immediate charm and the backbone for cellaring, making it a superb match for osso buco, wild mushroom risotto or truffle-infused dishes. A testament to Gaja's balance of tradition and modern precision, the 2018 will continue to develop for decades.
