Description
Rock Ferry, established by Tom Hutchison and Fiona Fenwick, is an organic Marlborough estate dedicated to producing wines that highlight both varietal character and vineyard expression.
For the 2020 Corners Gruner Veltliner, certified-organic fruit was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed. Two-thirds of the juice was fermented in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity and aromatic lift, while the remainder was fermented in older French oak to build texture and depth. The wine then rested on lees for eight months, developing palate weight and savoury complexity.
The finished wine is expressive and finely balanced, showing aromas of pear, grapefruit and citrus zest, alongside subtle notes of white pepper and spice. The palate combines creamy texture with fresh natural acidity, leading to a long, mineral-driven finish. Distinctive and elegant, it is both an immediate pleasure and a fine candidate for short-term cellaring.
