Description
The Tokaj Oremus Aszu 6 Puttonyos 2014 is the pinnacle of Hungary's botrytised winemaking tradition, a wine of remarkable depth, balance and longevity. Produced by Vega Sicilia’s Tokaj estate, it is crafted from a blend of Furmint, Harslevelu, Zeta and Sargamuskotaly, hand-harvested in multiple passes late in the season. Fully botrytised Aszu berries are added to a base wine in a ratio of six puttonyos (around 150 kg) per 136 L Gonc cask, then slowly fermented before maturation for two to three years in Hungarian oak barrels. Bottled at 11% ABV with 171 g/L residual sugar and 8.8 g/L total acidity, it achieves extraordinary richness balanced by vibrant structure. Aromas of dried apricot, orange marmalade, honey, walnut and smoky spice are layered with hints of fig and rancio complexity. The palate is opulent yet poised, delivering candied citrus, baked quince, honeycomb and roasted nut flavours underpinned by vivid acidity and a fine mineral edge. The finish is endlessly persistent, combining sweetness and freshness in perfect harmony. A benchmark Tokaji of great ageing potential, it will reward careful cellaring for 30 to 40 years and pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses or fruit-based desserts.
