Description
Altano, produced by the Symington family, is sourced from the certified organic Quinta do Ataíde estate in the Douro Superior, known for its schist soils and dry climate. The 2021 vintage saw a mild winter followed by a warm, dry summer, resulting in balanced ripeness and natural acidity. The hand-harvested grapes, primarily Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, underwent careful selection and destemming before fermentation in stainless steel tanks with temperature control to maximise aromatic freshness and gentle extraction. The wine was then matured for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, contributing structure and complexity. Bottled at 14% abv, Altano Quinta do Ataide Reserva 2021 displays deep colour, aromas of dark fruit and violet, with notes of spice and mineral, supported by fresh acidity and supple tannins. Ready to drink now, it also offers short- to medium-term cellaring potential.
