Description
The Ata Rangi Brut Rose 2023 marks the Martinborough estate's debut sparkling release, produced in a particularly cool and unsettled growing season that lent itself to freshness and finesse. Made entirely from Pinot Noir, the fruit was hand-harvested at low Brix to preserve bright natural acidity, then whole-bunch pressed to extract only the most delicate juice. Primary fermentation took place in neutral oak on full lees, building texture and complexity, followed by 11 months of maturation before the second fermentation in tank using the Charmat method. The finished wine shows a pale salmon-pink hue and a fine, persistent bead. Aromas of pomegranate, wild strawberry and lemon zest are joined by notes of baked apple and subtle spice. The palate is dry and precise, combining red-berry fruit purity with creamy lees texture, a touch of shortbread and bright citrus lift, finishing crisp and mouth-watering. This inaugural release showcases Ata Rangi's hallmark balance and detail in a sparkling style best served chilled as an aperitif or with light seafood dishes.
