Description
The Ata Rangi Potiki Chardonnay 2023 reflects the estate's evolving expression of Chardonnay from Martinborough’s Terrace soils. Its name, Potiki (meaning “last born” in Te Reo Maori), hints at its derivation from a blend of newer blocks and some of the more mature plantings on the estate. The wine was barrel fermented in 300L Burgundy puncheons using indigenous yeasts and matured for 11 months on lees to build texture and complexity. The nose is expressive and floral, offering white peach, nectarine and gentle mealy notes of cashew and blanched almond. On the palate it begins with a seamless entry, then reveals focus and freshness, accentuated by mineral tension and fine structure. Though it is approachable now, it has the poise to age.
