Tasting Notes

The Bestheim Crémant d’Alsace Brut Premium NV embodies the elegance and tradition of Alsace’s sparkling wine heritage. Produced from the best Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois parcels, this Crémant showcases the finesse and generosity of its cuvée. The wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks without malolactic fermentation, allowing it to retain its fresh, vibrant character. It is then aged for a minimum of 18 months on lees, which imparts a refined complexity and a delicate string of bubbles.

On the nose, this Brut Premium reveals a captivating blend of white flowers, yellow fruits like peach and apricot, and subtle hints of dried fruits. The palate offers a lively, fresh, and dry profile with a harmonious balance between fruit-forward notes and a crisp finish. Its creamy, textured effervescence, combined with a light body and a touch of dryness, makes it an ideal choice for an aperitif or to accompany a variety of appetizers. The wine has been well-received by critics, earning 92 points from Wine Enthusiast and 90 points from Anne Krebiehl MW, highlighting its appealing freshness and balanced, lingering finish.

Critic Scores

Apple, toffee and saffron are an enticing combination of scents on the nose of this sparkler. On the sip, it's more austere and laser focused. A foamy pearl teases the tongue, while savory mineral notes dominate. Tart green apple leads a lingering fruity finish. This is a very moreish aperitif that will pair beautifully with cheese, charcuterie and nuts, and leave guests hungry for the main course.

Creamy, scented freshness reminiscent of white pear flesh and summer blossom is diffused by this wine's lively mousse. The exquisitely light body is bright, with a dry, refreshing finish. It would make a gorgeous aperitif.

Vineyard Cultivation

Bestheim is a long-established Alsace producer based at Bennwihr and Westhalten, with co-operative roots among local growers, and today draws on vineyards across the Alsace plain and the foothills of the Vosges. The Cremant d'Alsace Brut Premium is a Non-Vintage blend built for a consistent house style, sourced from varieties permitted in the appellation - typically Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois with other Alsace grapes. The region's continental climate, sheltered by the Vosges, gives a dry, sunny growing season, while varied soils of limestone, granite, clay and sandstone across the member vineyards contribute freshness and aromatic definition to the base wines.

Vinification

The base wines are pressed gently and fermented cool to retain acidity, then blended before the wine is made sparkling by the methode traditionnelle, with a second fermentation in bottle as required for Cremant d'Alsace. The wine is aged on lees in bottle for at least the appellation minimum of nine months, building fine bubbles and a subtle bready character, before disgorgement and a brut dosage. The traditional method and lees ageing give the wine its citrus and orchard-fruit profile with a crisp, dry finish. Exact blend proportions and dosage are not publicly confirmed for this release.
