Description
Château Guiraud has long been defined by its independence and pioneering spirit. It remains one of the rare estates in France to have established a grape variety conservatory, and as early as 1996, it initiated a groundbreaking shift towards biodiversity. In 2011, Château Guiraud became the first Premier Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification to be officially certified in Organic Farming.
Since its founding in 1766, the estate has navigated cultural and political changes with a blend of boldness and reinvention, continually striving for excellence. Today, Château Guiraud is guided by four passionate owners: Matthieu Gufflet, Peugeot Invest (represented by Robert Peugeot), and two seasoned winemakers, Olivier Bernard and Stephan Von Neipperg.
A mild winter led to an early budburst before mid-March. Recent investments in frost-protection towers, installed in 2022, once again proved invaluable during a late April frost. The growing season was marked by heavy rainfall and high disease pressure, but cool spring temperatures slowed vine development, helping to mitigate mildew threats through determined vineyard management. A warm summer encouraged grape ripening, and record September rainfall (150 mm) created ideal conditions for Botrytis cinerea to flourish. The first harvest pass began early, on September 19th, followed by three more quality-focused passes despite challenging weather. Harvest finished on October 22nd, with unexpectedly generous yields.
The 2024 vintage showcases striking freshness and vibrant energy. Aromas of white peach, candied lemon, bitter orange peel, dried apricot, and black tea emerge on the nose. On the palate, the wine offers poised concentration—airy yet taut—while maintaining Château Guiraud’s signature profile: smoothness, roundness, layered complexity, and lasting aromatic finesse. This is a wine of balance, indulgence, and refined elegance.
