Description
Sourced exclusively from the exceptional 2003 Douro vintage - one marked by heat, low yields and intensity - Churchill's Vintage Port 2003, in half-bottle, is an authoritative expression of estate-grown fruit and traditional craftsmanship. The blend is dominated by fruit from old vines at Quinta da Gricha, foot-trodden and fermented in historic granite lagares, then fortified and aged for two years in large old oak casks. Bottled unfiltered at 20% ABV, this vintage port is deep in colour and richly aromatic, with notes of blackcurrant, cassis, dried violets and a touch of eucalyptus. The palate is opulent and full-bodied, showing fine tannic structure and a wealth of dark berry fruit, licorice, and cocoa. With time, subtle notes of cigar box and spice emerge. Best decanted, this wine is ideal with blue cheeses, dark chocolate or enjoyed on its own for contemplation. It demonstrates Churchill's steadfast dedication to powerful, ageworthy Douro classics.
