    • Description

Established in 1992 by Swiss founders Georg Fromm and Hatsch Kalberer, Fromm Winery in Marlborough has been certified organic since its inception and is recognised for minimal-intervention winemaking focused on terroir expression. The Fromm Chardonnay 2023 is sourced from the organically farmed Wrekin Vineyard in the southern valleys of Marlborough, where clay and silt loam soils produce fruit of natural concentration and fine acidity. The grapes were hand picked at optimal ripeness, whole bunch pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts to capture vineyard character and texture. Maturation took place over twelve months in French oak barriques, of which around ten percent were new, with gentle lees stirring for added complexity. The wine was bottled unfined and lightly filtered to retain purity. It carries 13.4% alcohol, less than one gram per litre of residual sugar, and is sealed under screwcap. In the glass it shows a pale straw colour with green tints. The aroma is subtle and precise, offering citrus, white peach, nectarine and flint with hints of hazelnut and brioche. The palate is dry and finely structured, balancing ripe stone fruit with taut acidity, chalky texture and measured oak influence. The finish is long, mineral and refreshing. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees Celsius; ideal with shellfish, roast chicken or creamy pasta, and capable of graceful development over five to seven years.
