Description
Founded in 1992 by Swiss partners Georg Fromm and Hatsch Kalberer, Fromm Winery has long pursued an artisanal approach that merges European finesse with Marlborough terroir. All vineyards are organically farmed, with a focus on balanced soils and restrained yields to achieve purity and depth. The Fromm Pinot Noir 2023 reflects this philosophy, drawing fruit from several estate and contract blocks across the Wairau and Southern Valleys. Hand picked from March through April, the grapes were fermented with indigenous yeasts in small open vats before maturing for up to nineteen months in French oak barrels, a portion of which were neutral. Bottled in January 2024 with minimal handling, the final release totals 13,194 bottles at 13.2 percent alcohol and less than one gram per litre residual sugar. In the glass the wine presents a medium ruby red hue. Aromas reveal lifted red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry and redcurrant intertwined with floral notes, dried herbs and gentle spice. The palate is dry, finely structured and elegant, delivering precise red fruit, savoury undertones, earthy complexity and bright acidity wrapped in silky tannins. The finish is long, pure and balanced. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees Celsius; ideal with duck, mushroom risotto or game bird dishes, and suited for cellaring for eight to ten years.
