Description
The Greywacke Archive Release Pinot Noir 2016 is a finely evolved Marlborough Pinot Noir that shows how time in bottle amplifies complexity, texture and site expression. Sourced primarily from the Yarrum Vineyard on the Brancott and Ben Morven ridge, with additional parcels from Omaka and Brancott, the fruit was hand-harvested, destemmed with a portion of whole bunches retained, and fermented in open-top tanks with gentle cap management. The wine then matured in French oak barriques, around 30% new, for 11 months before bottling at 13.5% ABV and held back in the cellar for extended ageing. Now released at peak maturity, it reveals an intricate aromatic profile of juicy blackberry and blueberry, homemade strawberry jam, cedar, black olive, lavender and subtle spice, underpinned by forest floor and smoky notes from bottle evolution. The palate is graceful yet assured, with supple layers of red and black fruit, fine tannins and a silky texture balanced by vibrant acidity. Earthy complexity and savoury depth flow through a long, harmonious finish. This wine shows the rewarding evolution of Greywacke Pinot Noir over time and pairs beautifully with roast duck, venison or mushroom-based dishes.
