Description
Established in 1812, Laurent-Perrier releases Alexandra Rose only in exceptional years as its prestige pink Champagne made by assemblage. The 2004 edition takes Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from selected Crus and is vinified protectively in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve fruit definition. The base wines then spend an extended period on lees to build texture and harmony before final blending. Colour and extra structure come from a precise addition of still Pinot wine, applied to shape the style rather than dominate it. In the glass a fine, persistent mousse carries lifted notes of wild strawberry, citrus and light pastry over a firm mineral line. The palate is concentrated but controlled, acidity clean and well integrated, and the finish long, dry and tapered. Presented in a wooden gift box, this poised, gastronomic rose reflects the house’s Chardonnay-influenced finesse while showing the depth of the vintage, and it has the balance to accompany refined dishes or reward further careful cellaring.
