Description
The Palliser Hua Nui Pinot Noir 2022 is a site-focused single-vineyard expression that captures the precision, depth and elegance of Martinborough Pinot Noir in a particularly refined form. Fruit from the Hua Nui Vineyard was hand-harvested, destemmed with a portion of whole bunches retained, and fermented in open-top vessels before maturing in French oak barriques, a proportion of which were new, to enhance structure and complexity without overwhelming the fruit. Bottled at 13.5% ABV, the wine opens with an aromatic profile of wild cherry, red plum and strawberry woven with violet, wild herbs and subtle clay-derived minerality. Barrel maturation adds layers of clove, vanilla, roasted nut and a faint smoky nuance. The palate is finely structured and textural, with polished tannins, bright acidity and a saline edge that lends freshness and length. Concentrated yet graceful, this wine shows remarkable balance and poise, drinking beautifully from release but capable of evolving even greater complexity through to the mid-2030s. Its purity and savoury nuance make it an ideal match for roast duck, lamb or mushroom dishes.
