Description
The Palliser Pencarrow Chardonnay 2024 is a polished and expressive Martinborough Chardonnay that delivers both immediacy and finesse. Fruit from estate-grown vineyards was hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before undergoing fermentation in French oak barriques, with a portion of new wood used to build texture and complexity while preserving fruit purity. Lees ageing and gentle stirring have contributed further depth and a subtle nutty nuance. Bottled at around 13.5% ABV, the wine opens with a vibrant bouquet of white peach, ripe citrus and lemon curd layered with notes of vanilla spice, lees-derived savouriness and a whisper of barrel smoke. The palate is dry and finely textured, showing stone fruit and citrus flavours wrapped in a silky, satin-like mouthfeel, balanced by lively acidity and a restrained oak frame. Hints of Brazil nut and subtle spice extend the finish, giving structure and length. This Chardonnay is immediately appealing on release but will gain further complexity through 2029, and pairs beautifully with roast chicken, creamy seafood dishes or soft-rind cheeses.
