Description
The Radford Dale Renaissance Chenin Blanc 2023 is a benchmark expression of old-vine Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc, capturing both the concentration of heritage vineyards and the precision of minimalist winemaking. Sourced from dry-farmed bush vines on the granitic slopes of the Helderberg, the fruit was hand-picked at optimal ripeness and whole-bunch pressed, with a portion given brief skin contact to enhance texture. Fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts in seasoned French oak barrels over 8 to 10 weeks, and malolactic fermentation was blocked to preserve natural acidity. The wine was matured on its primary lees for nine months, building subtle weight and complexity without overt oak influence. Bottled at 12.8% ABV, it opens with finely etched aromas of citrus zest, green apple and white peach, layered with almond skin, crushed stone and a saline edge. The palate is taut and pure, combining vibrant acidity with a supple texture and a long, mineral finish. This is a precise, terroir-driven Chenin Blanc that will reward cellaring for the next 8 to 10 years and pairs beautifully with shellfish, roast poultry or soft-rind cheeses.
