    • Description

Rock Ferry, founded by Tom Hutchison and Fiona Fenwick, is an organic Marlborough estate with vineyard holdings in both Marlborough and Central Otago. The Trig Hill vineyard in Bendigo is a steep, schist-dominated site that produces concentrated, structured wines from varieties less commonly seen in New Zealand, including Tempranillo.

In 2022, small parcels of Tempranillo from Trig Hill were hand-harvested and fermented in French oak cuves. After pressing, the wine was transferred to French oak barriques for fourteen months of maturation, with around half the barrels new. This regime brought richness and structure while supporting varietal fruit expression.

The finished wine shows ripe black cherry and plum alongside savoury notes of cocoa, spice and earth. The palate is bold and firmly structured, framed by chocolatey oak, fresh acidity and robust tannins, leading to a long, powerful finish.
