    • Description

Founded in 1163, Scala Dei is Priorat's oldest winery, celebrated for its historic mountain vineyards on licorella slate. The 2021 Prior is a classic Priorat blend of Garnacha and Carignan from low-yielding, old-vine estate plots, hand-harvested on steep terraces for optimal ripeness and complexity. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in small stainless steel tanks, followed by gentle maceration to capture depth without excessive extraction. The wine is then aged for 12-14 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels, supporting integration and adding subtle spice. This bottling displays vibrant aromas of red and black fruit, wild herbs, and graphite, with a palate that is full yet precise, structured by fine tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long and mineral, making it suitable for immediate enjoyment or further cellaring.
