Hawke’s Bay had its 4th consecutive warmer-than-average vintage in 2021. Flowering was five to 10 days early and normal temperatures were experienced until the end of January

Harvest weather was reasonably stable and favourable - a very good to exceptional Hawke’s Bay vintage, especially for well-crafted Syrah.

A blend of Gimblett Gravels (78%) and Mangatahi (22%) fruit.

"The 2021 Cru Heretaunga Syrah is spicy and gravelly on the nose, with charred meat crust, gristle and black pudding, violets and field flowers. It's pretty as well as being grunty and firm—a nice juxtaposition. There are pomegranate pearls and mulberry. I love the mid-palate succulence here; it really makes an impact. The fruit persists through the finish, unbroken. It's great."

"There's a lovely, likable succulence to the dark berry fruit on this lucid Syrah, from two top subregions in Hawke's Bay, with hallmark black olive, dried herb, violet and graphite aromas tucked beneath. The satiny, mouthwatering blackberry fruit leads on the palate, too, framed by supple, savory tannins. It's a complete and winter warming drop now but could cellar nicely until around 2035."
