Tasting Notes

Lake Road Wines stand testament to a family winegrowing legacy spanning 40 years.

Settled on the world’s eastern edge in New Zealand, our vines are the first in the world to see the light of each new day. This abundant sunlight is reflected in every sip, as the fruit ripens earlier with a rich, tropical fruit spectrum and wonderful aromatics.

Lake Road. First vines to see the light of day.

Vinification & Cultivation

Crafted only for our premium wines

Vineyard Cultivation

Lake Road Wines is a Gisborne producer on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, a region known for warm, sunny ripening and generous, aromatic white wines. This Pinot Gris is grown on Gisborne's fertile alluvial river flats, where a long growing season and warm days build ripe orchard and stone-fruit flavour while the site's freshness keeps the wine balanced. Canopy and crop are managed to reach full flavour ripeness for a rounded, slightly off-dry style. The 2024 fruit shows the ripe peach and Asian-pear character noted for the wine, picked to retain the crisp acidity behind its soft, concentrated palate.

Vinification

The grapes were pressed gently and cool-fermented to preserve delicate aromatics and primary fruit, then finished in a slightly off-dry style with a little residual sugar balancing the fresh acidity. Time on fine lees adds the clean, oily texture and soft weight that carry the palate. The wine is unoaked, or nearly so, letting the ripe peach, baked-apple, melon and green-pear flavours and a hint of spice show clearly, finishing with a finely textured, refreshing and lingering close.
