Description
This wine comes from the vineyard of Saumagen in the village of Kallstadt. The vineyard that the mighty Koehler-Ruprecht has made famous. It's wild-yeast fermented then aged on its lees for six months. Flinty and mineral on the nose, it has plenty of stone fruits, sweet pears and white flower aromas. It's bone-dry (2g/l of sugar) on the palate with lifted apple and pear blossom notes leading to a clean, fresh finish.
“This is a very special vineyard and it shows in the wine. Precise and focused, with vibrant citrus, green apple, and a stony minerality. Bone-dry with racy acidity, a touch of herbal spice, and a long, saline finish. A pure expression of this iconic Pfalz vineyard. We love it, and it represents great value”
Winemaker and owner Gerd Stepp makes this exceptional German Riesling from a single vineyard in the country's warm southern region of the Pfalz.
The Kallstadter Saumagen vineyard is all about loess and loam rich soils with a high limestone content, where the soils are full of tiny fossil shells, which provide high calcium content.
