From one of Bordeaux's greatest winemakers.

Blend of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc (15%), handpicked and matured in French oak barrels before bottling.

Enchanting aromas of licorice, black plums, earthy damson, and vanilla spice precede a lush, rounded fruit palate, balanced oak and firm tannins conclude in a lasting finish.

Montagne is a Saint Emilion 'satellite', a neighbouring village making wines that mirror the Saint Emilion Grands Crus. Less well known, they offer exceptional value, particularly in outstanding vintages like 2019. Montagne, says Robert Parker in his book 'Bordeaux', is where you consistently find "some of the deepest, richest wines" and Vieux Chateau Saint Andre is a luscious example. It’s a classic combination of Merlot and both Cabernets, with the requisite period of oak ageing to ensure a smooth and harmonious cuvee. Owner Jean-Claude Berrouet was formerly winemaker at Petrus for many years and has been responsible for countless headline-grabbing wines over his career. Decant this classic an hour in advance to allow it to open out, then serve with roast lamb or beef.
